Local specialities and unique finds

  •   Bateel dates - “the caviare of the date world” to be found in Dubai airport,
      though with a greater selection and slightly cheaper in their string of shops
      in town. Bateel has opened a café at Burj Dubai downtown, currently a
      nightmare to get to, because it is still one massive construction site, but
      looks promising for the future. For now, stick to the airport

  •   Sandals from Bur Juman’s numerous shoe outlets
  •   Lebanese groceries (check out the baby aubergines stuffed with walnuts,
      green olives with zereskh) from the Lebanese Gourmet in Wafi Gourmet
      delicatessen in the Wafi Centre Mall tel 971 4 324 4433.
  •   Electronics – try Jackie’s or Sharaf Electronics
  •   Azza Fahmy jewellery from the Egyptian designer’s outlet in the Emirates
